Solution-focused brief therapist

How are you feeling?

Are you anxious? Do you suffer from insomnia? Are you preoccupied with personal relations inside or outside the family? Are you looking for a fresh start in the midst of challenging life situations? Is your life overshadowed by drugs or alcohol? Are you on the verge of burnout? Do you have other concerns for which you need support in the form of a safe and confidential conversation?

Solution-focused brief therapy offers short-term support for a wide range of life situations and is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, culture or gender.

At my reception, I challenge and guide my clients to find new perspectives on their life situations that call for change. Even one session may help you see your situation in a new light.

If you feel you need support to help you recognise new opportunities and make the changes you want, do not hesitate to contact me.

“Solution-focused brief therapy seeks relief for problems through the client’s own strengths and resources.”

Brief therapy

Solution-focused brief therapy involves short-term, interactive and goal-oriented discussion support that helps the client understand and challenge their own thought patterns.

Instead of fixating on what lies behind the problems, the focus is on the client’s current situation and looking toward a better future.

Solution-based brief therapy is based on solution-oriented psychotherapy. The roots of solution-oriented thinking lie in the USA in the 1970s, when a group of therapists founded the Brief Family Therapy Center. In Finland, representatives of solution-oriented methods include, for example, Ben Furman and Tapani Ahola.

Solution-focused brief therapy seeks relief for problems through the client’s own strengths and resources. The aim is to make rapid progress towards more effective operating models.

In practice, it is possible to benefit from even a single brief therapy session. The average number of sessions is seven, and 20 sessions is considered the maximum. The number of sessions required is assessed after the objectives of the sessions have been defined on the basis of the core problem.

Remote and face-to-face sessions

My background is as a nurse specialised in mental health and substance abuse treatment. I graduated as a solution-focused brief therapist in February 2021.

In August 2021 I began studies in Basic Sexology (sexual counselling). These studies meet the criteria of NACS – Nordic Association for Clinical Sexology. After this I intend to continue my studies in sexology graduating as a sexual therapist.

At some point in the future, I plan to train as an individual cognitive behavioural psychotherapist or integrative psychotherapist approved by KELA, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland.

My reception is easy to get to in Espoo. Because I am used to working night shifts, I can occasionally offer remote night sessions. In the future, I will also try to hold sessions in a natural environment, such as a forest or garden.

In the sessions, I will challenge and guide you to find new perspectives on your life situations that call for change. According to feedback, I am a good listener. Still, solution-focused brief therapy also requires an active commitment by the client to the goals of the sessions. This includes a little bit of homework.
